According to Capaldi, D. M. and Eddy, J. M. (2009), the ESSENTIAL FEATURE of CD is repetitive & persistent pattern of behavior in which either the basic rights of others and/or major age-appropriate societal norms are violated in a way that significantly impairs functioning in SOCIAL, ACADEMIC, AND/OR WORK SETTINGS. They must exhibit at least 3 conduct problem behaviors during the past year.
ODD is a secondary diagnosis (only in the DSM V) that is given to children & adolescents who exhibit hostile, defiant, and antisocial behavior at a higher rate than their peers for at least six months, but who do not meet the criteria for CD.
